This is a contemporary love story, set off by a broken romance from 60 years ago.  Chun Yang, 28, a Taiwanese graphic artist, goes on a journey to China to search for a woman, Xiu Qian, who was her recently-deceased father’s first love.  Her father had promised Xiu Qian 60 years ago that he’d come back to marry her.  But until recently, Taiwanese and Chinese governments were hostile to each other, Chun’s father was never able to fulfill his promise.  Chun’s mother hires a Chinese guide, Fang, 32, to protect Chun during her trip. 

Chun and Fang grew up on two sides of the Taiwan Strait and were brought up with different values.  Along the way, they argue constantly.  Chun, vibrant and independent, considers Fang obnoxious and “scary.”  Fang, earthy and proud of his heritage, doesn’t hesitate to cut Chun down to size.  Their conflict-packed journey together forces them to break down the walls between them, discovering unplumbed depths in themselves and in each other.  Chun and Fang’s turbulent love story unfolds in tears, laughter and a clash of values.  Tracking down Xiu Qian in China, Chun has found not only new love, but also her lost family, her roots, and inspiration for her creative work.
