Manga artist Rohan Kishibe, while in a church in Venice, overhears a masked man’s bizarre confession—he accidentally killed a vagrant and was cursed to “face despair at the very moment of greatest happiness.”

Desperate to avoid joy, the man tries to escape happiness altogether. Yet one day, he is moved by the sight of a little girl innocently playing, triggering the curse. The dead vagrant suddenly reappears, forcing him into an absurd trial: he must catch three popcorn kernels in his mouth—or fall into the deepest despair.

Drawn in by this unsettling confession, Rohan activates his ability to read memories, only to realize that this curse may, in fact, be closing in on him as well…
